Abstract
When it comes to cardiovascular disease (CVD), the death toll and illness rates remain high. The most common cause of mortality in humans is myocardial infarction, which is caused by cardiac ischemia reperfusion damage. The primary determinant for cardiovascular disease is atherosclerosis, which is caused by oxidative stress and the production of reactive oxygen species. The literature review revealed that moderate red wine consumption reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) via a number of pathways, including an increase in plasma levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, a decrease in platelet aggregation, antioxidant effects, and the restoration of endothelial function. This review aims to address the growing body of data suggesting red wine has several biological functions and might help avoid cardiovascular disease.
