Abstract

Beta blockers are known to cause sleep problems. Through the targeted suppression of adrenergic beta1-receptors, beta blockers have been shown to decrease melatonin synthesis. The sleep disorder adverse effects of beta-adrenergic receptor blockers and the danger of reduced melatonin production may be alleviated with the use of exogenous melatonin, which is best taken as a supplement in the evening.
