Management of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia in outpatient clinical practice: the use of statins

Abstract

: Not only can statins lower cholesterol levels, but there is some evidence from clinical trials that they may also lower blood pressure. The primary objective of this clinical trial was to identify any associations between statin treatment and improved blood pressure control. Research Methods and Equipment: People who went to the doctor for high blood pressure and cholesterol issues were the subjects of a prospective study. Both groups included individuals with stage 1 hypertension and hypercholesterolemia who provided their informed consent to participate; one group received statins while the other did not. Exclusion criteria were a history or current evidence of stage 2 hypertension, being pregnant, breastfeeding, or having dementia. In order to get comprehensive clinical data, medical records were prospectively examined.
